How does the ONIRIS® oral device work?
ONIRIS® is an innovative and patented mandibular advancement device designed to bring you maximum comfort and effectiveness. It is a device – similar to a sports mouthguard or a dental tray- that gently holds the lower jaw in an advanced position while sleeping. It thus keeps the air passage at the pharynx open and prevents the obstruction phenomenon that causes snoring and sleep apnoea. Numerous clinical studies show that this technique works. [1] Prospective multi-centre open, uncontrolled study carried out within the Assistance Publique-Hôpitaux de Paris [university teaching hospital] with the main objective of evaluating the effectiveness of the ONIRIS thermoformed mandibular advancement device in 41 patients suffering from snoring and severe sleep apnoea syndrome, who are refusing or abandoning CPAP. The duration of follow-up was 45 to 60 days, controlled by an independent laboratory based on a protocol validated by the AFSSAPS [French Health Products Safety Agency], the Institutional Review Board Sud Med IV, the CCTIRS [Advisory Committee on Health Research Information Processing] and the CNIL [National Commission for Information Technology and Civil Liberties].
After how long does ONIRIS® become effective?
Usually from the first night. If this is not the case you simply need to gradually increase the advancement of the oral device as indicated in the instructions for use.
Is ONIRIS® adjustable?
Yes, ONIRIS® is completely personalised. Thanks to its patented system, you can determine your mandibular advancement from 0 to 11 mm with 1 mm accuracy. You will benefit from a safe, customised and comfortable treatment.

Is the ONIRIS® oral device easy to use?
Yes. The ONIRIS® oral device is very easy to use. It has been made so that you can mould it at home in just a few minutes and it provides you with the best possible comfort when you sleep. The advancement adjustment can be easily readjusted if necessary and in just a few seconds.
The customised dental impression takes just 3 minutes and you can also repeat and readjust it if necessary. Simply put it back in the water as described in the instructions.

How do I adjust ONIRIS?
The best way to adjust your ONIRIS is to gradually increase the advancement of the lower part until your snoring disappears and you regain an optimal quality of sleep.
We recommend starting with the smallest advancement and gradually increasing it, millimetre by millimetre, every 2 or 3 nights. Simply follow the instructions for use and in a few days, you will finally be able to enjoy a comfortable and peaceful night’s sleep.
Is the ONIRIS® oral device suitable for children?
No. If your child snores a lot, it is strongly recommended that you consult a doctor to find out the cause and determine the appropriate treatment. In a few special cases under medical supervision, a specific oral device can be used to treat children.
How do I maintain my ONIRIS® oral device?
After each use, brush the appliance with a toothbrush and toothpaste and rinse with cold water. To extend the life of the device we recommend the use of Nitradine maintenance tablets available on our website or in pharmacies.
Can I open or close my mouth with ONIRIS®?
Yes. While sleeping, opening, and closing your mouth are natural operations that the body needs, for example to allow you to swallow. Unlike most other devices, ONIRIS® allows real freedom of movement, you can breathe completely normally through your mouth, without feeling constrained, for optimal comfort of use.
What is ONIRIS® made of?
ONIRIS® is designed using flexible biomedical materials, combining comfort and safety. They have been approved by the American FDA, and are guaranteed to be BPA, latex and silicone free to give you maximum long-term safety. The ONIRIS® oral device also contains no metal, no risk of rust, electrolytic reaction, or discomfort with these rigid materials.
What is the lifespan of ONIRIS®?
ONIRIS® has a lifespan of around 12 to 24 months, one of the longest on the market. We advise you to take good care of your oral device in order to prolong it.
It can also vary according to the maintenance, the acidity of your saliva or for people suffering from bruxism.
Is the ONIRIS® oral device difficult to tolerate?
You will quickly get used to it and after a few days of use, you won’t even notice it!

It is sometimes possible that in the first few nights you may remove it after a few hours, if you feel dental discomfort or hyper salivation for example. But these effects disappear quickly and after a few days of use, you won’t even notice it!

What are the contraindications to the use of the ONIRIS® oral device?
The Oniris oral device is not suitable for people with fewer than 8 natural teeth per jaw (4 on each side), except for people with a complete removable appliance in the upper jaw or a complete appliance attached to 2 Locator type implants in the lower jaw.
People with dental mobility, gum or periodontal disease or complications, those suffering from an uncontrollable gag reflex, those prone to uncontrolled or minor epilepsy, or those who are receiving orthodontic treatment. In case of doubt, it is imperative to consult a dental or ENT specialist.
My dentist is going to perform a treatment or a prosthesis, what should I do?
You simply need to remould your ONIRIS® as described in the instructions for use.
Tell your dentist that you are wearing a mandibular advancement device and if your teeth change a lot, check with him/her that you can still wear the ONIRIS® oral device.
I wear a prosthesis, a bridge or an implant?
This does not usually pose any problems. However, we advise you to ask your dentist whether these appliances are of good quality and not fragile.
Is it possible to swallow ONIRIS®?
No. It is physically impossible to swallow the oral device while you sleep. On the contrary, an unconscious reflex sometimes causes the oral device to fall out of your mouth during sleep. This phenomenon usually disappears after a few days of wearing it.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes, we ship to all countries in which ONIRIS has been approved by the health authorities or if an agreement is not necessary. In this case delivery usually takes 5 to 7 days.
How long does delivery take?

Are mandibular advancement devices effective?
Yes, for several decades clinical studies have shown that mandibular repositioning devices are effective against snoring and sleep apnoea. There are of course other treatments.
This is why mandibular advancement devices are generally recommended as the first treatment to try to combat snoring and sleep apnoea [1] by the American, European and Japanese Academies of Sleep Medicine.
But for a mandibular advancement device to work, it is essential that it combines several characteristics:
- A high-precision dental impression to avoid dental pain and movement.
- Precise advancement adjustment from 0 to 11mm for maximum effectiveness and comfort.
- Total freedom of movement allowing you to breathe naturally, drink or talk.
- Easy to use, can be repeated and readjusted if necessary for more comfort.
ONIRIS is the only over-the-counter anti-snoring oral device to bring together all these features to give you a quality, comfortable and restful night’s sleep.
[1] In the case of mild to moderate sleep apnoea. In case of sleep apnoea, mandibular advancement oral devices are recommended in case of refusal of or in combination with positive pressure ventilation machines. In case of sleep apnoea, ask your doctor for advice.
What about other snoring treatments?
Surgery can be effective but it is very expensive, presents risks and does not guarantee results even though it is definitive. Ventilation masks are effective but restrictive and are reserved only for severe cases of sleep apnoea. Nasal dilators can help some snorers if nasal breathing is limited, but this is not the main cause of snoring. And throat lubricants (sprays or lozenges) don’t work for more than a few minutes and on very light snoring.
